The respected medical journal, The Lancet, has taken a stand in favour of everyone in the community wearing masks in an effort to eliminate transmission of the coronavirus disease.
They say that medical masks should be preserved for frontline healthcare workers, and that cloth masks are “adequate” for use in the general community.
The aim is to protect others if you are infectious, whether or not you have symptoms.
They say “mass masking” is an act of altruism and solidarity.
I think it is time for us to have this conversation in Australia as we plan for the next phase of the pandemic response.
